What is the Annual Sydney Goth Picnic?

Hi there, welcome to the first post on this site!

The Annual Sydney Goth Picnic started one fateful afternoon in 2011 after a discussion on The Australian Gothic Society Facebook group. Several underage goths in the group were lamenting how there were no more events in Eora (Sydney) that they could attend since the Under The Blue Moon festival was no longer running and clubs and gigs were inaccessible to them.

The idea then arose to have a picnic in September when the weather was better and we went from there. It was an unprecedented success! Almost 80 people came all decked out to the home of goth in Eora country; Newtown for the picnic. It was a great day where many new friendships were made and old friendships rekindled; people brought their pets and kids along and many stayed till way after dark.

Since then we have had a picnic every year except for 2020 due to Covid and the concern for the most vulnerable in our community (which we made up for this February). We cannot wait for our next picnic but in the meantime we are looking forward to our first ever buy/swap/sell this May!

Big love fellow goths. Stay safe and hope to see you all out there soon.

First thing you should know about me is that I'm rubbish when it comes to talking about myself... I never know what to say. I will try though... *ahem*... I'm a creative soul, ever since I can remember I've been making up stories, drawing, making music, art and even sometimes clothing and delicious things to eat. Creativity and self expression is at the core of everything I do and I suppose this site is another opportunity for me to share this with other like-minded people. Three fictional characters that I relate to are: Lisa Simpson, Brianne of Tarth and Makoto Kino (Sailor Jupiter)... take from that what you will. When I'm not working on my stuff I'm hanging out in nature and doing the work/uni thing. I enjoy martial arts, learning more about sustainable and eco friendly living and growing my own food. You might also notice that I'm a proper nerd burger... and I never grew out of that Goth "phase". I think that about covers it! Lovely to meet you and thank you for reading. ^_^ - L

  1. Dominant goth . Sir /madam, I’m new to Sydney and interested in attending events or volunteer duties as submissive to a dominant type gothic female or couple. Im37 and was interested in being used as a slave type position, non sexually and kept on a collar and lead at the boots if you know of anyone interested? I’m experienced with 4 years as service sub and enjoy being made use of . It’s an unusual request however was reaching out incase you may know someone interested. Thank u for your time

    1. Chris, this event is explicitly family friendly and therefore your comment is not only completely inappropriate but also fetishises women and femme presenting people within our community and is therefore offensive.
Goth and BDSM are not the same thing, Goth is a music based subculture, it does not have a monopoly on black clothing or corsets or platform boots.
Additionally, I did not consent to being exposed to sexual language from a complete stranger. It’s creepy and gross and demonstrates that you have a lack of boundaries and therefore will never be welcome at any of our events.
